Two most popular and rewarding career options in Commerce after 12th are Chartered Accountancy (CA) and Company Secretary (CS).
Let’s start with details of CA first:
CA has three levels CA Foundation, CA Intermediate and CA Final.
And for CS you again have three levels:
CSEET, CS Executive and CS Professional.
CA Foundation and CSEET are the entrance level or Level I for CA and CS respectively. The eligibility for CA Foundation & CSEET is 12th appeared, so you can give your exam of CA Foundation or CSEET soon after your 12th Commerce/Science/Humanities. Yes, you heard it right, students of any stream (not only Commerce) can appear for CA Foundation or CSEET. Exams for CA Foundation are usually held in the month of May/June, September and January. Exams of CSEET are held in the month of January, May, July and November.
So, for appearing for CA Foundation or CSEET you must enroll for it atleast 4-5 months before the exams. For it you must visit www.icai.org or www.icsi.edu for regular updates. Next step after registration of the course is registering for the CA Foundation or CSEET exam. Exam forms are again released on the above-mentioned websites. These exam forms are released approx. 2 months before the exams.
Let’s have a look at the subjects and marking system and passing criteria for CA Foundation and CSEET.

Subjective papers are to be answered descriptively. So, you need to have thorough practice of all the concepts of Accountancy and Business Laws.
For Accountancy first understand the concepts of each chapter and then practice each and every question of Accountancy from the notes. You need to practice each problem by yourself so that you understand the tricky points of the questions. Concentrate on important topics such as basics of Accountancy, Company Accounts, Partnership Accounts etc.
Then for Business Laws, firstly read the entire notes unit wise, then practice writing the answers of questions. At last revise the units from Chart book and revise definitions and case laws from the respective books. This shall be really useful. Generally, the questions asked in Business Laws are of two types direct questions and case study-based questions. Direct questions need to be answered point wise. Underline the important points always. Answer the case study-based questions in four point program manner viz, Facts, Provision, Analysis and Conclusion. You shall sail through this paper.
Quantitative Aptitude and Business Economics both are objective papers, where you have to answer 100 questions and you get 1 mark for the right answer and negative 0.25 for the wrong answer. So, choose to answer the questions wisely. Attempt those questions which you are confident about rather than answering every question. Revise every concept from the book then solve MCQ’s chapter wise to fetch good marks.
Passing criteria for CA Foundation is Overall passing percentage 50% and in Individual paper you must get 40%. So out of total 400 you must get 200 marks minimum.
After clearing CA Foundation enroll for next level i.e. CA Intermediate after clearing CA Intermediate go in for CA Final.
