Briefing CA Foundation Exam Pattern 2022

CA Foundation is an entry-level course and Exam conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) for students aiming to be Chartered Accountants.

It is a national level examination conducted twice a year in May and November.

This year (2022), the CA Foundation exams will be conducted on the 24th, 26th, 28th and 30th of June 2022. The exam is held this time in June due to a clash with the exam dates of the 12th CBSE.

Paper 1 and 2 are subjective where you have to write descriptive answers for the given questions.

Paper 3 and 4 are objective questions. The papers have a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer and +1 for every correct answer.

Eligibility Criteria

A 12th pass student from any stream (Commerce, Science or Arts) is eligible to appear for the CA Foundation examination.

Passing Criteria 

The passing criteria are you need to fetch 50% in total i.e. 200 marks out of 400 and a minimum of 40 marks in each paper.

The passing percentage ranges from 20% to 30% every year.

The professional journey of a student who is determined to become a Chartered Accountant starts from 11th Commerce itself. 11th and 12th Commerce help in building a strong foundation of concepts for the students which in turn helps them easily qualify for the foundation exam.

Do I have to register separately for the CA Foundation exam?

Yes. First, you have to register for the CA Foundation Course; later, you must register for the Exam as and when you wish to give the exam. Registration for the CA Foundation course is to be made at least 4 months prior to the examination. So for the May exams register on or before 31st December and for the November exams register on or before 30th June. The exam forms are released approximately in the month of February and August for May and November exams respectively.
