Articleship is a practical exposure under a practising Chartered Accountant.
CA student once they clear any or both the Groups of CA Intermediate, they shall get themselves registered with a practising Chartered Accountant.
You can register with any practising CA irrespective whether of the city you live in or outside your city. For eg. A student from Nagpur can do articleship from Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai etc. or for that matter from any city.
The only issue with registering with a CA in another city is you will have to get your graduation done from that city. Another solution for the same is go for graduation from an open university.
The articleship period is of 3 years and in the last 6 months of articleship you can give your CA Final exam.
There are a variety of options for areas of articleship like Law, Taxation, Audit, Project Financing, Forensic Audit, Mergers and Acquisitions etc.
Similarly there a variety of CA firms as well ranging from small, medium to big firms.
In big firms you get to work in various areas while medium firms shall have fewer options and small firms few options.
